Wolverine
franchise,

bloody

intense
film
that
has

audiences

alike
raving

grit

realism. The
movie
is
set
in
the
year
2029,
where
an
aging
Logan
(a.k.a.
Wolverine)
is
working
as
a
limo
driver
with
his
close
friend
and
mentor,
Charles
Xavier
a.k.a.
Professor
X.
They
both
are
hiding
from
the
government
and
trying
to
survive
in
a
world
where
the
mutant
population
is
almost
extinct.
When
Logan
is
approached
by
a
woman
seeking
his
help
to
transport
a
young
girl
named
Laura
to
a
safe
haven
in
Canada,
he
reluctantly
agrees.
Along
the
way,
they
face
various
obstacles
and
enemies,
including
a
team
of
cybernetically-enhanced
mercenaries
created
by
a
company
called
Alkali-Transigen. The
film
is
not
your
typical
comic
book
movie.
It’s
more
of
a
character-driven
drama
with
elements
of
action
and
violence,
and
a
much
darker
tone
than
previous
Wolverine
movies.
Hugh
Jackman’s
performance
as
Logan
is
outstanding,
and
he
delivers
his
most
emotional
and
nuanced
portrayal
of
the
character
yet.
Patrick
Stewart
also
shines
as
the
mentally
unstable
yet
still
wise
and
caring
Professor
X. But
it's
Dafne
Keen
as
Laura
who
steals
the
show.
Though
she
is
mute
for
most
of
the
film,
her
physicality
and
emotive
reactions
to
the
events
around
her
are
simply
breathtaking.
Her
character
is
extremely
powerful,
and
her
fighting
skills
are
impressive. Director
James
Mangold
has
crafted
an
intense,
violent
and
emotional
film
that
explores
themes
of
redemption,
family,
mortality
and
legacy.
His
use
of
a
restrained
color
palette
and
the
excellent
cinematography
by
John
Mathieson
-
who
shot
Gladiator
-
gives
the
movie
a
gritty
and
realistic
feel.
The
screenplay,
co-written
by
Mangold
and
Scott
Frank,
is
excellently
paced,
with
well-placed
humor
and
heart-wrenching
moments. Overall,
Logan
is
a
must-see
movie
for
fans
of
the
Wolverine
character
and
for
those
who
enjoy
well-crafted
and
intense
films.
It’s
a
fitting
end
to
Hugh
Jackman’s
portrayal
of
the
iconic
Marvel
character,
and
it
sets
the
bar
high
for
future
superhero
movies.
